Our Guest Bedroom Reveal
Each room in our house is slowly coming together and I’m so excited to start sharing more updates and room reveals on here with you all! For those of you who haven’t kept up or are just discovering our blog, we bought a new home in Indianapolis, IN last year and have been slowly (but surely!) renovating it ever since. Our interior design business is booming and lead times are so long for most things, so things are moving a little slower than anticipated. Thankfully, we have family coming into town at the end of this month, which was the perfect push we needed to put the final touches on our guest room.
BEFORE
When we purchased the home, the room was carpeted with stark white walls. The carpet and the baseboard heaters were the first things to go. We also removed the original closet to add more space in our living room. You can see the demo & details of that here!
We wanted the overall design of the house to be cohesive from room to room, so we replaced the flooring in most of the rooms to this wood flooring from Duchateau. We’ve worked with Duchateau on so many of our projects, including our last house, and are so in love with the quality! Painting the walls was a must, so we chose Natural Choice by Sherwin Williams. We wanted a neutral white that wasn’t too stark or cold and this one is one of my favorite white paints for a cozy and livable interior.
AFTER
The design for this room emphasizes mixing patterns, textures, and neutral colors. For furniture, we blended both vintage and modern pieces for a sophisticated, timeless feel. We chose a linen, slip-covered bed in an olive green fabric. (I couldn’t find the exact bed for you guys, but linked a similar one here and at the end of this post!)
Since we have guests coming soon, I added curtains from our old primary bedroom because I had them on hand. I get so many questions about these curtains, but they’re unfortunately discontinued from Pottery Barn. I was a little worried about the bed and the curtains being too similar, but they’re kind of growing on me, so they’ll stay for now.
I wanted to make the corner of the room simple, but still functional. We added a small stool and this vintage chair for the perfect reading corner.
Bedding was so fun to source for this room. I’ve been loving mixing and layering vintage fabrics and patterns lately. When making a bed, I usually start with a white or cream duvet cover for a base and then layer from there. I went with a block print quilt over the duvet to tie in the colors from the lamp shade. I then layered a piece of vintage fabric over it for a finished look. One of my favorite tips to bed styling is to use fabric cuttings for bedding textiles because they add such a custom feel to the space!
The nightstand was a vintage find. I fell in love with the wood tones and detail in the design, plus it was the perfect size for the corner of this room. I added a lamp base paired with this shade. I had my eyes on this shade for a while, so I’m so glad I found the perfect spot for it in our home. The pillow covers have been collected over the years from our Shoppe, vintage markets, etc. and I always use down inserts to fill them. (Designer tip: use covers that are a little smaller than your insert so they appear fuller!)
Both pieces of art are vintage too and I love how they tie in the colors in the rug and bedding. Speaking of the rug, we went with the Layla rug by Loloi. If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I’ve used this rug in so many rooms - it’s super affordable and compliments so many different pieces.
Linking all things below! And for things I couldn’t find, I linked similar items for you guys. Completing the guest room makes me feel a little more sane amidst our remodel and I can hardly wait to share more of our home with you all soon!
